This class models a stick of unit length that can be broken in two pieces. The variable of interest is whether the pieces form no triangle, an acute triangle, or an obtuse triangle.

This general constructor creates a new stick object.

Method Detail

setCutPoints

public void setCutPoints(double x,
                double y)

This method sets the cutpoints to specified values. These values should be between 0 and 1. The cutpoints do not have to be ordered.

Parameters:

x - the first cutpoint

y - the second cutpoint

setCutPoints

public void setCutPoints()

This method sets the cutpoints to random values in (0, 1).

setCutX

public void setCutX(double x)

This method sets the first cut point.

Parameters:

x - the cutpoint

getCutX

public double getCutX()

This method returns the first cut point.

Returns:

the first cutpoint

setCutY

public void setCutY(double y)

This method sets the second cut point.

Parameters:

y - the cutpoint

getCutY

public double getCutY()

This method gets the second cut point.

Returns:

the second cutpoint

setSides

public void setSides(double u,
            double v,
            double w)

This method sets the sides of the stick to specified values and determines the type of triangle. The values should be nonnegative and should sum to 1.

Parameters:

u - the first side length

v - the second side length

w - the third side lendgth

getSize

public double getSize(int i)

This method returns the length of the sides, in increasing order.

Parameters:

i - the index (0, 1, or 2)

Returns:

the length of the corresponding side (smallest, middle, largest)

getType

public int getType()

This method returns the type of triangle.

Returns:

the triangle type (0 none, 1 obtuse, 2 acute)

paintComponent

public void paintComponent(java.awt.Graphics g)

This method paints the stick. If broken, the stick is shown as a triangle if possible or as an open rectangle if not. If unbroken, the stick is shown as a line segment.

This method resets the stick to its ubroken form.

setStickColor
